What is Genus Insight?
In AION 2, you do not tame pets: you collect them from souls. Kill monsters to get their souls; the pet of that species appears in your collection and then grows to level 3. Each pet grants a small stat bonus, and all pets in a family contribute to that family's Genus Insight.
Open the Pets window and the Genus Insight tab. It has five “wheels”, one per family:

| Family | Pets | Crystal | Where to find them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cogni | 41 | blue | Krall, Kuru, Naga, Klaw, Kerubian |
| Fera | 65 | red | Spiders, Kailin, Slinks, Zaifs, Karnifs |
| Natura | 48 | green | elemental spirits, Agrints, Zelophi, Rafflesia |
| Varian | 46 | yellow | Drana Mutants, Kalgolems, Slimes, Rotans |
| Special | 7 | turquoise | shops only — they do not appear in the world |
The game sometimes describes Varian pets as mutants and Special pets as strange pets: these are the same families.
How insight levels work and what stat lines give you
Each family has 10 insight levels. Each level unlocks another stat line, up to 9 in total. You start with very few lines, so the early levels matter most: they make room for more bonuses.
The “Analyze Pet Genus Insight” button (bottom right) grants insight experience. Each click:
- spends your family's Soul Crystals and Kina;
- adds a little insight experience;
- rerolls every stat line except those you have locked.
Each line has a lock beside it. Lock a line, and the next analysis will leave it alone and reroll only the others. That is how you build strong insight: raise its level, lock useful lines, and keep rolling the rest.
Higher levels give you better lines
Each new line's quality is random, but the chances depend on your insight level. These figures come from the game client:
| Insight level | Experience to next level | Common | Rare | Epic | Unique | Heroic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 500 | 90% | 10% | — | — | — |
| 3 | 3 000 | 55% | 45% | — | — | — |
| 5 | 10 000 | 45% | 45% | 10% | — | — |
| 7 | 40 000 | 35% | 34% | 30% | 1% | — |
| 9 | 100 000 | 25% | 25% | 39% | 10% | 1% |
| 10 | maximum | 20% | 30% | 30% | 15% | 5% |
The rule is simple: do not spend locks and crystals chasing “perfect” lines at a low level. Until level 7–8, focus on experience and lock only lines you know you will use. Start chasing Unique and Heroic lines at level 9–10.
Soul Crystals: the different types
Crystals for Genus Insight
When you run out of the required color, analysis uses a universal Soul Crystal. That is convenient, but wasteful.
Where to get Soul Crystals
Universal crystals
- Hidden cubes can contain up to 1 000 crystals at once. You need keys to open them.
- Shugo Festival shop — for festival points.
- Subscription shop — a crystal pack if you have a subscription.
- Achievements — the Exploration and Shugo Festival sections provide a substantial amount.
Family crystals
- Ascension Trial — a weekly reward box, 3 times per week on each character. With alts, that adds up to plenty of pets and crystals.
- Duty Quests can reward crystals. Refresh the list until a crystal appears in the left-hand slot, where its drop chance is higher.
- Commands — from the Command Merchant in the main city (12 per week) and in the Abyss. Choose rewards the same way as for Duty Quests.
- Monster hunting is the most reliable source, covered below.
Hunting: a completed species means a crystal per monster
Until you have fully collected a pet species, its monsters drop souls. A pet needs 5 souls to unlock and another 100 to reach level 3 (shown as “Max.” in the window). That is roughly a hundred kills of monsters from one species.
Once a species is maxed out, its monsters start dropping their family's Soul Crystal instead of souls — one per kill. Farm places with plenty of monsters whose pet species you have already completed: every fight then contributes to insight.

The best places are the level 49–51 islands, where monsters are plentiful and close together. You also earn good Kina and materials there.
| Family | Elyos — Eternal Isle (Verteron) | Asmodians — Immortal Isle (Altgard) |
|---|---|---|
| Cogni | Eternal Kuru Worker and Eternal Kuru Overseer (50), Eternal Kerubar and Eternal Lupyllini (49) | Kuru Worker and Kuru Overseer (50), Kerubar, Kerubiel, and Modified Lupyllini (49) |
| Fera | Eternal Slink, Eternal Crasaur, Eternal Starturtle, and Eternal Moss Crab (49) | Coastal Slink, Crasaur, Starturtle, Coastal Moss Crab (49), Unstable Kailin (46) |
| Natura | Eternal Fire Spirit, Eternal Earth Spirit, Eternal Wind Spirit, and Eternal Water Spirit (51), Eternal Zelophi (49) | Immortal Spirits and Immortal Spirit Guardians (51), Rafflesia (49) |
| Varian | Eternal Drana Mutant (50), Crimson Drana Predator and Crimson Drana Mutant (47–48) | Drana Mutant (50), Unstable Poison Blood (47) |
The Abyss is another option. Chaotic Lower Reshanta and Chaotic Middle Reshanta have plenty of level 45–54 Klaw and Nagarant (Cogni), Karnifs and Slinks (Fera), Agrints and spirits (Natura), and Kalgolems and Rotans (Varian). But Abyss time is limited and enemy players are nearby, so the islands are more convenient for relaxed farming.
Pet progress in TeamMate

How many souls are left to the next pet is handy to see right in the game. When your character logs in, TeamMate picks up the progress of every pet from the game — even the ones you have not obtained yet — and shows where to get their souls with an On map button. Pin the pets you want, and their progress stays visible in the overlay over the game.
Genus Insight titles
Each family has its own Genus Insight achievement. Levels 3, 5, 7 and 10 give 5,000, 8,000, 10,000 and 13,000 Kinah, and level 10 also gives a title. With all five families at level 10 you get the Unique offensive title Unbound by Genus and 20,000 Kinah.
| Title | Family at Lv 10 | Equipped | Owned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cogni to the Bone | Cogni | PvE Damage Tolerance +3.1%, Regeneration +160 | Front Attack +3 |
| Fera to the Bone | Fera | PvE Damage Tolerance +3.1%, Perfect Resist +1.6% | Back Attack +3 |
| Natura to the Bone | Natura | PvE Damage Tolerance +3.1%, Double Resist +1.6% | Front Attack Critical Hit +10 |
| Varian to the Bone | Varian | MP +260, Natural MP Regen +17 | Back Attack Critical Hit +10 |
| Special to the Bone | Special | PvE Damage Tolerance +3.1%, Evasion Bonus +33 | PvE Attack +4 |
| Unbound by Genus | all five families | PvE Damage Boost +4.5%, Attack Bonus +34, Critical Hit +68 | PvE Damage Boost +1% |
The owned effect always works, even with another title equipped. Unbound by Genus is one of the strongest offensive titles for PvE. All titles are in Titles.
How to level insight: a plan
- 1. Collect pets along the waySouls build up as you level and clear the map. Do not skip monsters of new species.
- 2. Weekly boxesRun Ascension Trial on every character, and choose Duty Quests and Commands with crystal rewards.
- 3. One wheel to 10Choose the family whose stats your class needs most and level it first. Do not spend universal crystals.
- 4. Farm the islandsOnce you have completed the island's pet species, every monster means a crystal. An hour of farming brings hundreds of crystals and Kina.
- 5. Refine your linesAt level 10, lock your best lines and reroll the rest until you have what you need.
- 6. Special insightUse only universal crystals and Special Soul Crystals.
- Universal crystals on your first wheelYou will run short for Special insight, which has no other way to level.
- Chasing Heroic lines at level 3–5The chance is zero. Level first, refine lines later.
- Leaving good lines unlockedThe next analysis rerolls everything without a lock.
- Farming monsters that do not drop crystals yetUntil a species is complete, it gives souls, not crystals. Look for places where your pet species are already maxed out.
- Skipping Ascension Trial on altsThree boxes per week on each character mean plenty of pets and crystals.
Every week
- Ascension Trial ×3 on each character — claim the boxes
- Duty Quests and Commands: choose crystal rewards
- Check Black Cloud Merchants for new pets
- Farm a level 49–51 island with maxed-out pet species
- Analyze Pet Genus Insight: one wheel to 10, then refine lines
The key points
Genus Insight gives you five wheels of stats leveled with Soul Crystals. Raise one family to level 10, lock useful lines, and only then chase rare ones. Get colored crystals from Ascension Trial, Duty Quests, Commands, and farming completed species on the level 49–51 islands. Save universal crystals for Special pets — they do not appear in the world.
