Without gatheringHandicrafting can morph 1 Odyle into 1 nugget of the same grade. These nuggets are bound, so you can craft with them but cannot sell them.

What gems are and why they matter

When players search for “ruby”, “sapphire” or “brilliant ruby” in AION 2, they usually mean nuggets, a material for Handicrafting. Crafted accessories are among the best in the game: Dragon King's rings and necklaces remain useful as new content arrives and can be upgraded further. This keeps demand for nuggets high.

There are three gems — Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond — each with four grades. The grade is random when you gather: Normal nuggets are common, while Brilliant ones are rare.

What does “brilliant ruby” mean?There is no item named “Radiant Ruby” in the game. “Brilliant” describes top versions of finished accessories, such as the Brilliant White Dragon King's Necklace. It uses Radiant Ruby Gemstones. When someone says “brilliant ruby”, they mean the Radiant-grade nugget.

Where to gather gems

Gems grow at gathering nodes in the main regions. Each node has one type — Ruby, Sapphire or Diamond — and the nugget grade is random on each successful gather.

Counts show every node location in the client data, but only some nodes are active at a time. Following a route is better than waiting at one node. Verteron and Altgard have the most locations.

How to gather

Unlock Essence ExtractionIn the gathering skill tree, learn Gem Seeker first so gem nodes appear on your minimap.
Enable map layersThe links above show Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond nodes for each region.
Gather from a nodeInteract with it and fill the success and failure bars. Each node gives three attempts; a success yields a nugget.
Raise your masteryHigher gathering mastery means fewer failures and more rare grades. At level 50, a regional quest unlocks the Professional rank quest.

Do not leave gathering unattendedAfter extended repetitive gathering, the game may show an anti-bot check. Failing it can restrict your account. Since the 14 October patch, selling gathered materials on the Market also depends on the character's play history as an anti-bot measure.

What gems are used for

Each gem goes into its own accessory family. Higher accessory tiers require higher-grade nuggets.

Normal nuggets go into two basic recipes:

Sapphire and Diamond use equivalent recipes. The Handicrafting materials merchant sells Abrasive for 400 Kinah.

Why nugget prices rise in the eveningNormal nuggets are a cheap way to level Handicrafting, so crafters buy them in bulk. Prices are usually lower in the morning and rise as the server gets busier in the evening. Every server has its own Market, so check your server's prices.

Nuggets without gathering: morphing Odyle

The Gem tab in Handicrafting lets you morph 1 Odyle into 1 nugget of the same grade — Ruby, Sapphire or Diamond.

Morphed nuggets are bound: you cannot sell them, but recipes accept them like regular nuggets. This is useful when your Odyle stock can cover a missing gem. Gather Odyle in the same regions (Verteron has over 700 nodes), in the Lower Abyss, and from dungeon rewards.

Odyle is also used for energyOdyle is also morphed into Odyle Energy, which provides extra dungeon reward cubes. Decide which use matters more before turning all your Odyle into gems.

Sell or craft?

SellNormal nuggets sell steadily to players levelling Handicrafting. If you do not craft, sell in the evening. Remember the Market's 10% tax and listing fee.

CraftIf you are working towards Dragon King accessories, save Pure and Radiant nuggets. Radiant is the rarest material in the chain and can cost more to buy than to gather.

Common mistakes

Gathering without Gem SeekerNodes do not show on the minimap, wasting time searching.
Waiting for a node to respawnMany nodes exist but only some are active; follow a route instead.
Trying to sell bound nuggetsNuggets morphed from Odyle are bound and cannot be listed.
Mixing up gradesPure is Legendary, not Normal; Radiant is the most valuable grade.
