Which class to pick in AION 2: 8 classes, their roles and weapons
Author: dbaion2 team, based on: class descriptions from the game client · September 24, 2026

In short
- There are 8 classes at character creation, and they are the same for Elyos and Asmodians. Your race does not limit your class.
- Every class has 35 skills: 12 active, 10 passive and 13 stigmas. Full lists are on the class pages below.
- The client also contains a ninth class, the Brawler, but it cannot be picked at character creation yet.
Classes by role
Roles and weapons below follow the character creation screen. The "who it suits" notes are our advice, not game rules.
Tank
- Templar — one-handed sword and shield. Holds enemies on themselves and protects allies, standing in the front line of the party. Suits players who like leading the group and do not chase damage numbers. Party dungeons always lack tanks, so a Templar finds a group fast.
Melee
- Gladiator — greatsword. Deals damage up close, and thanks to high HP can back up the tank. High HP forgives mistakes, which makes it one of the calmest picks for a first character.
- Assassin — two daggers. Stealth, attacks from behind, poisons and stuns, high attack speed. Shines for players ready to learn combos and watch their position.
Ranged
- Ranger — bow. Attacks from afar, sees the whole fight and has time to react. A good pick if you do not want to stand next to the boss.
- Sorcerer — spellbook. The biggest burst damage and plenty of crowd control, but low HP and defense. Positioning mistakes are costly, yet enemies often never reach you.
- Spiritmaster — orb. Summons spirits that fight for them while weakening enemies and dealing damage over time. Calmer to play than the Sorcerer, but you have to manage your summons.
Support
- Cleric — mace. The party's main healer. Hard dungeons are tough without one, so a good Cleric is always wanted. Suits players who enjoy watching allies' health bars more than their own damage.
- Chanter — staff. Buffs the party, debuffs enemies and can heal or fight on their own. The most flexible class, covering several jobs at once.
How to pick your first character
- Want melee without extra stress — Gladiator. Want to hold the group together — Templar.
- Prefer keeping distance — Ranger or Spiritmaster. Want maximum damage and accept the risk — Sorcerer.
- Would rather help than finish enemies off — Cleric or Chanter.
- Playing with friends? Agree in advance: a party needs at least one tank and one healer.
Before choosing, open the class page to see when skills unlock and what the stigmas do. You can spend skill points in the skill calculator, and the tier list shows which classes are most common at the top of the rankings.
